when making a music video its most often the Record company get a Video Commissioner to send the chosen to Directors and Production companies that they feel are right for the job. From there directors are given a shot time to think and send the commissioner there pitch which they base on rough idea from the band and record company. The band and record company then choose the best Idea and layout a budget. they then allocate a producer to look after the budget the producer is paid with a percentage of the budget. the producer and director hire a Director of Photography and Arts Director they help in Pre-Production by moniorting plans and how the video is going to look. they then send out location scouts to find the best location based on the video idea after the location is found planning of the shoot are made. by hire all the equipment and the crew, actors(if needed)and make sure thing to accommodate the crew and casts like toilets, food and transport. Planning goes to the most grave deatial as when it come to shoot day most Directors on get one day to shoot the video so everything has to be planned out and back up plans are made.
Next the day of the shoot. After the shoot the footage is shipped off to an editor and the editor has a few day to make an Off-Line edit which is using the raw footage and cutting making no changes to the images and no effects add if any are planned. It then shown to the record company and band to see there views. Changes are made if asked then the Online Edit is made adding all effect and colour correction or filters. when this is finished the final version is taken to the client who then put it on Tv or place it online wherever they wish to broadcast it.
This all takes 3-4 weeks to make as every min as soon as the budget is made it starts to be taken away to pay for everyone and everything.
